Established in 1850, the town of Loomis is located in Northern California, just north of I-80 and about ten minutes from my house. It has apparently maintained its rural character for decades, but the town seems to be in a state of transition. Many of the historical buildings and businesses are for rent. The Loomis newspaper building is shuttered. There is a gastropub that serves amazing food next-door to an old fashion burger and shake shop that looks like it opened in the 1950’s. There is an appliance store that sells $12,000.00 dollar ranges next-door to a spin studio and across the street from the town drugstore, which is also closed and for rent. My kids played in a newly constructed playground, with a water feature, beside the infamous railroad tracks that run through the town.
Loomis stands out to me as a relic of the past, a typical small American town. My hope is to show some of the charm of downtown Loomis, and preserve the historical setting, through my amateur photography.
